Dr. Andrew G. Muddle, Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Andrew Muddle co-founded MedPharm in August 1999 and is the Chief Executive Officer.
Dr. Muddle has spent 19 years in the pharmaceutical industry in the drug delivery area and worked for a number of companies of varying sizes. At PowderJect Pharmaceuticals plc, he was Technical Director (Pharmaceutical Development) with responsibility for pharmaceutical sciences, pre-clinical and clinical functions. He held this position for three and a half years and made a major contribution in the early development of the company and was pivotal in the IPO in 1997.
Dr. Muddle has managed development projects through to commercialization of several transdermal patch products. Prior to this he has also held technical positions with drug delivery companies such as the Elan Corporation, Ethical Pharmaceuticals Ltd (U.K.), Controlled Therapeutics (Scotland) and Ciba-Geigy (now Novartis).
Prof. Marc Brown, Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer, Director and Scientific Advisor
Prof. Marc Brown is a co-founder of MedPharm and Chief Scientific Officer. Prof. Brown was recently appointed as Professor of Pharmaceutics in the School of Pharmacy, University of Hertfordshire after spending nearly 15 years as an academic in the Pharmacy Department, King's College London (KCL).
At KCL, he was previously, with Prof. Marriott, co-director of the Medicines Research and Development Centre. His research interests lie mainly in drug delivery to the skin nail and airways and he has 80 publications and ten patents describing his work. Prof. Brown has previously worked for Canadian drug delivery company Hyal as Director of Pharmaceutical and Analytical Development where he managed the development and approval of several topical formulations for the North American and European markets.
Dr. Sian Lim, Director of Pharmaceutical Development
Sian Lim graduated from the University of Brighton in 1996 with a BSc(Hons) degree in Pharmacy and gained his license as a registered pharmacist in 1997. In 2000, Sian gained his PhD in nasal drug delivery at King’s College London.
During his PhD, and under the supervision of Prof. Marc Brown, Sian gained the AAPS outstanding graduate research award in pharmaceutical technology in 2001 for his work.
Upon completion of his PhD, he joined MedPharm as a senior scientist and was promoted over the years until his present role as Director of Pharmaceutical Development where he and the team manage all contract development and internal research projects.
Mr. Paul Barrett, Head of Business Development
Paul Barrett has international business development experience. After substantial scientific experience in pathology, he moved into business development with the Australian Red Cross Blood Service, becoming National Business Development Manager, securing deals both domestically and internationally.
He then became Business Development Director for Diatech/CRC for Diagnostics before being asked to become CEO by the Board of Management. He successfully guided the CRC through a new round bid for seven years funding. This was for a total of $32M and included new partners BD Biosciences and Amgen.
Paul joined MedPharm in October 2007.
Ms. Katie MacDonald - Finance Director
Katie is MedPharm’s part time Finance Director. Katie is a Chartered Accountant and qualified with KPMG in 1992. She is also a student member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. Katie spent six years as Vice President R & D Finance and Group Treasurer at PowderJect Pharmaceuticals plc.
Katie was integral to a successful IPO with PowderJect Pharmaceuticals in 1997 and had significant involvement in subsequent fund raising, acquisitions, divestments and reorganizations. Katie now supports a number of small growing biotech companies in the capacity of Finance Director and Company Secretary.
Rob Turner. Ph.D.,BSc. (Hons) , Director of Projects and Head of Health and Safety.
Rob Turner graduated from the School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences in Portsmouth University with a BSc (Hons) degree in Microbiology in 1995. He immediately gained employment at Johnson and Johnson Cosmetics where he was quickly promoted to the position of Head Microbiologist in the Research and Development Department .
In 1998 he successfully obtained funding from J & J to study for a PhD in bio-adhesion and drug delivery under Prof. John Smart at the School of Pharmacy, University of Portsmouth. He completed his studies in 2001 and immediately joined MedPharm as a Senior Microbiologist. Subsequently Rob was promoted to Head of Microbiology, Deputy Director of Pharmaceutical development and has now taken over the role as Director of Projects and Head of Health and Safety. He has taken a lead role in the development of many of the performance tests developed at MedPharm including the TurChub and ChubTur ungual systems.
Michael Crothers, Ph.D., MRes, B.Sc. (Hons), Director of Pharmaceutical Quality
Michael graduated from the School of Chemistry at The Queen’s University of Belfast in 1997 with a BSc (Hons) degree in Chemistry and from the Department of Chemistry at Manchester University in 1998 with a Master of Research (MRes) degree in Molecular Engineering. He successfully obtained funding from GlaxoSmithKline UK and the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Manchester University to further his research into novel block polymers, graduating in 2003 with a PhD in Pharmaceutics.
In October 2002 Michael joined Micap Plc, UK, to work as part of their pharmaceutical development team to assist in the development of Micap’s technology for drug delivery applications. His main focus was to ensure all quality aspects of the technology were met at each stage of development.
In May 2004, Michael joined MedPharm Ltd, UK and became Study Director under MedPharm’s GLP compliance program in November 2004. In July 2007 Michael took on the role of ‘Named GLP Operator’ for MedPharm, and in November 2007 became Director of Pharmaceutical Quality. Overall, Michael is responsible for both the GLP and GMP compliance programs within MedPharm.
